Handmade Birthday Gift Fruity Body Scrub

I am excited to be a part of Kristen Duke’s Birthday Celebration Week this week!  Kristen’s idea was to put together a huge list of handmade gifts; the kind of gifts that you could give to a friend for her birthday.  The presents needed to be able to be made quickly and on a budget.  Each gift tutorial also comes with a free printable to add to the gift.  You will find links to over 101 tutorials at the end of the post!

I think people should be pampered on their natal day, so I decided to make up some soothing body scrub as my contribution to the blog hop.  My scrubs have a pretty fruity scent to them, but I didn’t have to spend a fortune on expensive oils.  When you find out how easy it is to scent your homemade scrubs, you will want to run out and make a batch today!

Lorann Oils for Scent

MY LATEST VIDEOS

This body scrub recipe is similar to my Raspberry Coconut Oil Scrub in that it uses coconut oil and Epsom salts as its main ingredients.  I wanted this batch to have a bright, fruity scent and I discovered a sneaky trick.  Instead of using expensive oils, you can substitute LorAnn oils!  That’s right.  The oils that you find in the baking aisle and use to flavor candy at Christmas.  The same oils that cost less than two dollars for two vials.  The ones that come in dozens of different flavors.  Yeah, those!

I’ve gathered links to the materials I used in this tutorial. If you purchase after clicking one of these links, I will receive a small commission. Thanks!

Jelly Jar for Homemade Body Scrub

I began by mixing up a batch of strawberry body scrub.  To make your own:  heat 1 1/2 ounces of coconut oil in a measuring cup until the oil liquefies.  Pour in the contents of one vial of LorAnn strawberry flavor and mix them together.  Add enough Epsom salts to bring the mixture up to the  1/2 cup mark on the measuring cup.  Stir it all together and transfer it to a 4 ounce Ball jelly jar.

It took me MAYBE 5 minutes to make up a batch of scrub.  If you are making more than one jar, just adjust the amounts as you need.  It would take only slightly longer to make 6 batches of scrub than it took to make one.

Watermelon and Strawberry Coconut Oil Body Scrub

I also made up a batch of body scrub using the LorAnn watermelon flavor.  The flavor oils have a slight tint to them which makes the body scrubs such pretty colors.  I made sure to test both varieties out, and the coloring does not stain skin at all.  The scrub has a light, fruit scent which leaves your skin with just a hint of fruitiness.

 Mason Jar Labels

We are in full summer swing here, so I have popsicles on the brain.  I made up some jar labels with a sweet popsicle theme, which I think goes well with the fruity body scrubs.  You can print of your own labels and add them to your own jars of scrub.  The labels are available in strawberry, watermelon, grape, blueberry, and lemon.

They Say It's Your Birthday Jar Label

Cut the printables to fit the interior of the mason jar lid and screw the lid closed.

I decided to identify the scent of each scrub with a colorful popsicle stick.  I wrapped the jars with baker’s twine and tucked the popsicle stick into the twine.

Now I have two thoughtful gifts on hand to give to friends on their birthdays!

As we get older, we don’t like to make a big fuss over birthdays.  Even if your friends don’t want a big elaborate celebration, I bet they would still love to get a pretty little gift that lets them know you care.

All week long, Kristen is sharing birthday tips and giveaways so be sure to check out her Party. As for the other creative ideas, a lot of these gifts are versatile for any occasion, and can be a to gift to your friends, family, or even that gal that you’d like to get to know better.
