When I finished this DIY, I clapped. There are sometimes when a project idea is so simple and yet turns out so well, that it makes me a little giddy. This $2 Lombardi trophy was one of those projects. I took a few super cheap supplies and a little spray paint to make this trophy that is a perfect centerpiece for your Big Game party.
THE MORE YOU KNOW: Do you know why you are always reading about the “BIG GAME” on blogs? We are legally not allowed to mention the real name of the championship football game because of NFL trademark infringement. Silly, but true.
$2 LOMBARDI TROPHY DIY
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE A DOLLAR STORE FOOTBALL TROPHY
Please excuse this blurry picture. I was apparently too excited to get started on this project to take a decent materials photo. I picked up an el-cheapo foam football from Walmart and the pyramid-like vase from my local dollar store. I had super glue and spray paint on hand, but you could use hot glue, craft glue, or craft paint and the project should still work.

HOW TO MAKE A DIY TROPHY CENTERPIECE
The base of the trophy is a sort of pyramidal vase from the dollar store. You could get away with a standard cylindrical vase too, but the squared-off one is preferable.
If your Big Game party will be held outdoors, you might want to add some sand or pebbles to the vase to make the bottom of the trophy heavier. This will prevent the trophy from tipping over.
I used strong glue to attach the football to the top of the vase at a slight angle. You could also use a low-temperature hot glue gun but I think high temp hot glue would melt the foam. The ball will need to be held in place while the glue dries.
Then I hit the vase and football combo with silver spray paint. Start with one light coat of paint and add a second, if you really need it. The whole process took me about five minutes!
WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR HOMEMADE TROPHIES
You can easily make up your own Lombardi trophy for your football party. It would also be fun to make up a few of them, and give them out as awards to party guests who win first place at commercial bingo or your final score pool!
I am sharing game day DIYs this whole week, so keep your eyes peeled for more football fun.

I LOVE this! My church has a fantasy football league and my 7 year old son won last year! Talk about beginner’s luck! I saw this and would make it, but I have one problem… I can’t spray paint the ball because it is signed by the winners… How could I prop the ball up without gluing it down? Can you think of any way to make a stand for the top of the vase? I already bought the vase and now I can’t think of how to make it work!

Museum putty! You can buy it on Amazon, and it holds items in place without damaging either surface. Museums use it to keep antiques in place on shelves, so I think it would work for this project. Congrats to your son!

What size vase and football

As long as the vase and football are in proportion, it doesn’t matter what size you use. I used a mini foam football and a 12″ vase.
