You are probably thinking that it is awfully early for me to start with the Halloween treats already. Really, these fun Mummy Munch and Frankenstein Crackers are in honor of the upcoming release of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. My kids have been fans of the franchise for years, and my daughter has been begging me to see it in theaters. To get us all geeked up for the July 13th release, I made some delicious movie night snacks inspired by characters in the movie.
The new Hotel Transylvania movie follows our favorite monster family as the take a luxury monster cruise. Drac, Mavis, Frank, Murray and the gang are enjoying the monster cruise until Mavis realizes that Drac has fallen for Ericka, the ship’s captain. She just happens to hide a dangerous secret that could destroy all of monsterkind!
To make some delicious snacks, I headed to Walmart and picked up some Pop Secret microwave popcorn and Lance peanut butter crackers.
While I love Drac, Mavis, and Jonathon, I chose to recreate Frank and Murray for my movie treats. I used peanut butter Lance crackers to make these delicious dipped treats. Lance has been making little sandwiches for over 100 years with two awesome crackers on the outside with incredible spreads between. With real peanut butter between crispy baked crackers, up to 5 grams of protein, and no high fructose corn syrup, the Lance crackers are a tasty and satisfying snack solution.
I began by melting 2/3 cup of green candy melts in the microwave. I dropped the crackers into the candy melts, one at a time, fished them out with a fork, and laid them on parchment paper. While the candy melts were still soft, I added two candy eyeballs to each cracker. My daughter noticed that if I left the crackers like this, they could easily pass as Blobby treats (another character from the movie!). Once the candy had hardened, I used black gel icing to add a bit of hair to top of the Frankenstein crackers. These are honestly so delicious, and they are easy enough to make that your kids can help!
Next up was a bowl of Mummy Munch to share! In recent years, Pop Secret has combined their unbeatable taste and better ingredients with inventive new flavors. The base of this tasty mix is Pop Secret Sweet ‘n Crunchy Caramel popcorn. The caramel is included right in the microwave bag, so it’s just as easy to make as any other microwave variety! It’s a delicious, high-quality snack that I can feel good about sharing with my family.
For this mix I popped two bags of the caramel popcorn in the microwave. I mixed it together with 2 cups of oat cereal and spread it out on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Next I melted 3 ounces of almond bark in the microwave, then drizzled it all over the popcorn and cereal mixture. Finally, I topped the mix off with some candy eyeballs. Your family will love snacking on this Murray-inspired popcorn!
