Late last year I learned about Liquid Sculpey and all the fun things you can make with it. I made some adorable snowflake ornaments using a thin silicone mold. It turns out Sculpey makes another mold that allows you to make delicate butterflies. You can make these geometric butterfly embellishments for your craft projects using alcohol ink and Liquid Sculpey.

Read below to see how I added color to my liquid polymer clay.
- Fill a cavity of the Liquid Sculpey silicone bakeable mold with the liquid clay.
- Use the scraper that comes with the butterfly mold to scrape off the excess liquid clay.
- Repeat with the rest of the mold cavities.
- Place the mold on a baking tray.
Gently tap the mold on the tray a few times to bring any bubbles to the surface.
- Bake at 300 degrees for 15 minutes.

WHAT ARE THE SIZES OF EACH BUTTERFLY?
The finished butterflies are intricate, colorful, and so sweet! You can find The larger size butterflies are about 1 1/2″ by 1 1/4″. The smaller size is less than an inch wide.
COLORING LIQUID SCULPEY
I did some experimenting with ways of creating color and pattern with these Liquid Sculpey butterflies. Sculpey does sell the Liquid Sculpey in a range of colors, but I wanted to use the bottles I already had. I mixed a small amount of the Liquid Sculpey with alcohol ink to color it. I did find that the ink caused the liquid clay to puff a bit in the oven. It didn’t affect the front of the embellishments, but it did affect the thickness of each piece.
I tried my hand at creating stripes and marbled swirls with different colors of the liquid clay. Creating the ombre stripes was a little futzy, but I like the end results!
