While I only produced one room makeover in 2014, I had plenty of DIYs to share with you. It was fun to look back on the year to see that we did get quite a bit accomplished around The Mad House. Check out some of my favorite DIYs of the year.
I gave myself a good pat on the back for this project. I tackled the job of UPGRADING A FLUSH MOUNT LIGHT all by myself. Usually I have my dad around for DIY projects, but this one I did on my own. I only had to call him once (and make one subsequent trip to the home improvement store) to get the job done, which means I can call it a success!
I was a bit of a skeptic about how much of a different NEW FRONT DOOR AND SHUTTER PAINT could make. I am a skeptic no longer! Our house looks totally new and fresh with the new dark blue accent color.
I don’t do that much gardening because I have something of a black thumb, but after some research I thought I might be up to GROWING RHUBARB. I can’t wait to harvest some stalks for the first time this coming summer.
My dollar store organization posts have always been hits with Pinterest. This year I added onto the series by sharing tutorials for how to ORGANIZE YOUR BATHROOM, CLOSET, KIDS’ ROOMS, KITCHEN, and OFFICE AND CRAFT ROOM.
The biggest DIY this year was our BATHROOM MAKEOVER. Not a full renovation, I kept all the major elements of the room and just gave it all a facelift. That meant there were several smaller DIYs within the larger project, such as….
… our newly FRAMED BATHROOM MIRROR. Those four pieces of molding made such a big difference in the overall look of the room.
The MARBLED DRAWER PULLS that I made from thrift store pulls and polymer clay are like the jewelry of the bathroom makeover. They weren’t a huge project, but they brought personality into the space.
Speaking of personality, the GROMMET-TOPPED SHOWER CURTAIN I sewed is made from bright, lively fabric. The bright green, teal, navy and gray color scheme flows through the whole room.
We gained more storage in the bathroom with the PAINTED LAMINATE CABINET. The teal paint is one of my favorite parts of the redesign.
Lastly is the FAUX ROMAN SHADE that I designed and made myself. I don’t think my limited sewing skills could have pulled up a real Roman shade, but this treatment has all the style of the real thing with a lot less work.
