While not actually a Halloween supply, my Dollar Tree had these unpainted ceramic calaveras in stock when I made my trip looking for Halloween goodies. These calaveras or sugar skulls are part of the Mexican celebration of Dia de los Muertos. I wanted to try my hand at decorating a calavera with some pretty rhinestones.
The skulls already had decorative markings on them to serve as guides, but I decided to create my own designs.
I did some online searching for calavera designs, and used them as inspiration for my piece. I used tacky glue and rhinestones to create flowers, hearts, suns and vines on the ceramic skull.
The project took a bit of time and patience. I lost count of how many rhinestones I shot across the room with my craft tweezers, but I am happy with the final results! If you do your own sugar skull decorating, I would love to see them! Email me or tag on me social media – @madincrafts
