If you have preschool-aged kids, you’re definitely acquainted with a certain cartoon featuring a helpful toy doctor. She always seems to know just how to make any toy’s problems better. My daughter loves the show, but it gives her unattainable expectations about whether or not her broken toys can be fixed. She doesn’t seem to get that stretchy rubber toys can’t just be mended with a piece of transparent tape. I am the toy doctor in our household, and it is disappointing for everyone when I can’t make a broken toy new again. I have recently found a secret weapon to keep in my toy fixing tool kit that will save us from a lot of tears.
I have used DAP™ caulks before but I had never seen DAP® RapidFuse™ All Purpose Adhesive. RapidFuse™ isn’t a super glue. It’s two times more durable, and it glues just about anything to anything: plastic, rubber, metal, glass, wood, tile, stone and concrete, fabric and more. I figured I would give it a shot on the latest toy casualty in The Mad House.
I had been putting off fixing this dragon’s wing because I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy job. There was basically 1/4″ of plastic holding the wing onto the body of the toy, and the toy itself was rounded, not flat. Not a simple fix, so I was really putting this RapidFuse™ to the test.
The package states that RapidFuse™ sets in just 30 seconds, does not foam, creates no mess, and dries clear. I was most skeptical about the 30 second dry time. Most glues claim to hold quickly, when in reality you have to create an elaborate scaffolding system to hold the toy in position while the glue dries. Not this stuff. I counted to 30 (with Mississippis, ala Ross), and the glue was dry and the wing set in place!
Not only does the RapidFuse™ dry so quickly, it cures in just 30 minutes. I have had so many successful toy repairs undone when my impatient kiddos tried to play with the fixed toy before the glue had had a full 24 hours to cure. Even my kids can handle a 30 minute wait.
I will be keeping this RapidFuse™ adhesive on hand to repair my kids’ toys and other household breaks from now on. Find out more about DAP® products by following the DAP Facebook page.
