PAINTED & PRINTED DIRECTOR’S CHAIR

June 19, 2015 by madincrafts 7 Comments

Painted and Printed Directors Chair Tutorial

I was Plutonium‘s brand ambassador.  I was compensated for my work, but all opinions are 100% my own.

It’s time for another Plutonium makeover project!  This month I chose to give new life to a director’s chair that had been gathering dust in our basement.  This whole project took a little more than an hour from start to finish, and we now have a fresh and modern chair that we will actually use.

This chair was purchased probably a decade ago, so that my grandpa would have a portable chair that he was comfortable sitting in.  It is still in reasonably good condition, especially the canvas, but it wasn’t much in the looks department.  I had considered replacing the canvas with new print fabric, but I hated to get rid of fabric that was still in great shape.  Instead, I chose to repaint the frame and make my own print on the canvas via block printing.

Tsunami Plutonium

I removed the canvas seat and back and spray painted the frame with Plutonium‘s Tsunami.  It is a vibrant medium blue that will make this director’s chair stand out.  I used about a can and a half to get full coverage of the chair frame.

After I painted the frame, I got to work printing the fabric.  I used the same products and techniques on the chair fabric that I used for my block printed make-up bag.

repeated block print

I repeated the block to create an all over pattern on the seat and back rest.  Between the bright spray paint and the block printing, it did not take me long to completely transform the chair into a modern new piece.

I love the way the graphic fabric pairs with the Tsunami paint.  I think this chair needs to go in my work room for me to use while I am filming Google Hangouts!

I am not sure what my grandpa would have thought of this chair, but I sure love it!

[…] I am glad I chose to paint the sides of the drawers with the Plutoniumâ„¢  pink.  I like that the concentrated color is carried on all around the desk.  The last touch I added to the work table was to paint the pull-out shelf with chalkboard paint.  I can use the chalkboard to write down which crafts supplies I need to buy or I can use it as another photo op spot. Try out these other furniture makeovers:  X-LEG COFFEE TABLE HACK  PAINTED & PRIMED DIRECTOR’S CHAIR […]
