I am a sucker for apple orchards in the fall. I love wandering around the orchards, shopping in the gift shop, and sampling the warm cider donuts and fresh-pressed cider. This apple cider mule is a delicious version of the classic Moscow Mule that incorporates the freshness of fall apples. This is a perfect fall cocktail recipe for any get-together or cozy night in.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS EASY FALL COCKTAIL
While you can use any brand of cider, vodka, and ginger beer for this recipe, I recommend buying the best you can afford. Ginger ale, rather than ginger beer, is usually high on sugar and low in that spicy ginger flavor. Fresh apple cider is tangier and smoother than cheap apple juice. And if you have ever tasted super cheap vodka, you know why it is not the liquor you should choose!

WHY DO YOU MAKE MULES IN A COPPER MUG?
Copper wires, copper roofs, copper pots and pans. You probably already know that copper conducts energy and temperature very well. Mixing an icy drink in a copper Moscow mule mug helps to keep the drink colder longer as the copper takes on the cool temps of the ice.
There is also some speculation that the lime and spicy ginger beer interact with the copper metal, making those flavors stand out even more than they would in a traditional rocks glass.
The final reason is aesthetic. Copper mugs are beautiful, and I think the metallic orange color is perfect for an autumn cocktail like this.
HOW TO MAKE A MOSCOW MULE WITH APPLE CIDER
It is important to begin by adding the ice cubes to a copper mug. If you are using a standard ice cube tray, use a few cubes. If possible, use an ice cube tray meant to make large spherical or cube-shaped ice cubes. These keep your cocktail cold as you sip without watering down the drink. Avoid crushed or nugget ice.
Pour the vodka, ginger beer, and cider over the ice slowly so the ice can cool the liquids. It’s a great idea to keep your bottle of vodka in the freezer so it is always cold! Give these ingredients a gentle stir to combine.
Next, squeeze in the fresh lime juice. The acidic taste of the lime cuts through some of the sweetness of the apple. Larger limes work much better for cocktails than key limes.
Finally, it’s time to garnish your cocktail. Chop a fresh apple into small pieces and add them to the drink. Then garnish the copper mug with a slice of apple and a wedge of lime. You can add in a cinnamon stick and festive paper straw too if you choose.
APPLE CIDER MULE COCKTAIL RECIPE
I think you will love this twist on a traditional Moscow Mule. The apple cider has a great tang that offsets the spiciness of the ginger beer. The apple cider Moscow mule recipe is great for Thanksgiving, but you will want to enjoy this drink all autumn long!
