Sequined pillows are a pervasive trend in home décor right now. Most home décor retailers have their own glittering version.
But, even if I could afford those pillows, I am not sure I am brave enough for THAT much glitz in my living room. Fortunately I found a way to bring in a little throw pillow bling into our home by means of an unexpected source… the dollar store!
I was immediately drawn to these hair accessories at Dollar Tree. The clips are about 2 inches wide, and the hair tie is about 4 inches across. Normally, sequined appliques like these would run you much more than a dollar, so I scooped them right up.
To make an Embellished Pillow from Dollar Store Hair Accessories, you will need:
pillow form
fabric
scissors
needle and thread
sequined hair tie and clips
I had this boucle blazer on hand in my material stash. I bought it for cheap at Goodwill two years ago in order to make some fabric pumpkins. I only ended up using one sleeve, so there was plenty of material left to make a quick pillow. I purposely chose to leave the pocket on the material to give some added interest to the throw pillow.
I pulled the embellishments off the hair accessories (they are just attached with hot glue) and tacked them onto the pillow.
The embellishments add some pizzazz to the pillow, which serendipitously looks great with my new-from-Target-but-bought-for-cheap-at-Goodwill pillow.
I don’t usually decorate with sequins, but I love the sparkle these flowers bring to my living room. Who knew you could instantly glam up your home with hair ties from the dollar store!?!
