While not actually a Halloween supply, my Dollar Tree had these unpainted ceramic calaveras in stock when I made my trip looking for Halloween goodies. These calaveras or sugar skulls are part of the Mexican celebration of Dia de los Muertos. I wanted to try my hand at decorating a calavera with some pretty rhinestones. Head to the dollar store to pick up the supplies for this rhinestone sugar skull.
The skulls already had decorative markings on them to serve as guides, but I decided to create my own designs.
I did some online searching for calavera designs, and used them as inspiration for my piece. I used tacky glue and rhinestones to create flowers, hearts, suns and vines on the ceramic skull.
The project took a bit of time and patience. I lost count of how many rhinestones I shot across the room with my craft tweezers, but I am happy with the final results! If you do your own sugar skull decorating, I would love to see them! Email me or tag on me social media – @madincrafts
