BUFFALO CHECK DIYS

BUFFALO CHECK DIYS

I am a big, big fan of plaid.  I went mad for plaid two Christmases ago, decorating our whole house in various tartans.  This fall I’ve been seeing buffalo check popping up all over, and I love it!  Buffalo check is a simplified plaid consisting of just two colors —  one of which is black.  It is sort of like the cool weather counterpoint to summer’s gingham trend.

I think you can almost use buffalo check like a neutral since it plays well with other patterns.  Depending how you use it, buffalo check can go country, woodsy, or very modern.  I have rounded up some of my favorite buffalo check DIYs for you to decide if you love this trend as much as I do!

BUFFALO CHECK PLACKET CANDLE HOLDER – MAD IN CRAFTS:  I made this simple candle display two years ago as part of my Christmas decorating.  I made several decor pieces using thrifted plaid shirts.  This candle holder was made with the placket leftover from one of those shirts!

FAUX FUR AND BUFFALO CHECK THROW – A BEAUTIFUL MESS:  I love that this black and white buffalo check fabric is baked with that fuzzy faux fur.

REVERSIBLE BUFFALO CHECK COWL – MADIGAN MADE:  My friend Shannon made this reversible buffalo check cowl from warm fleece.  This is perfect for winters up north.

HOW TO PAINT A BUFFALO CHECK ACCENT WALL – CLASS CLUTTER:  If you are really ready to commit to buffalo check, this statement wall would do the trick.  It manages to be modern and traditional at the same time.

BUFFALO CHECK NAIL ART – LACQUER STYLE:  This smaller scale buffalo check DIY is far more temporary, but still makes a big impact.

ANTHRO-INSPIRED MIDI SKIRT – THE SARA PROJECT:  This midi skirt is inspired by a pricy Anthropologie item.  I like the neutral brown check, but you could also make it in a more eye-catching red or white.

BUFFALO CHECK UPHOLSTERED CHAIR – VANHOOK & CO.:  Buffalo check can easily skew more country cottage than woodland, when used in the right application.  This stately chair was reupholstered in the print to fit in a more cozy cottage setting.M9LWOHN

NO-SEW BUFFALO PLAID SCARF – MADE WITH MOXIE:  Even if you can’t sew a lick, you can still make your own warm buffalo check blanket scarf this fall.

HOMEMADE BUFFALO CHECK STATIONERY – DAMASK LOVE:  This buffalo check-like plaid was created by hand with a striped stamp set and a white pen.

TAILORED BUFFALO CHECK FLANNEL – MAD IN CRAFTS:  Thanks to the resurgence of 90s fashion, you can find tons of plaid shirts in the stores right now.  Turn an inexpensive, boxy buffalo check button down into a tailored, feminine top in no time!
