As soon as I spend anytime outside in the winter, I get dry lips. Even if I am slapping lip balm on religiously, I still end up with a few dry spots or chapping. No fun. This simple brown sugar lip scrub can help to remove dead skin and moisturize your lips. And, you might have all the ingredients in your kitchen right now!
BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB
HOW DO YOU MAKE BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB?
Making this lip scrub is SO easy, and since you only use a small amount of scrub at a time, you can make only a small batch for yourself or a larger batch to share!
To make a batch of this lip scrub, combine equal parts honey, melted coconut oil, and brown sugar in a small bowl. Begin by mixing the ingredients together as well as you can. The coconut oil won’t want to play nicely with the other ingredients, but that’s okay. Place the bowl in the fridge for a few minutes to help the oil solidify a bit.
Take the bowl out of the fridge and keep mixing with a fork. You can see that the oil is solidifying and turning white.
You can stop mixing when the scrub looks like this. It should have the same consistency as when you cream butter and sugar for cookie dough.
BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB RECIPE
The best part of this lip scrub is that it works just as well as an expensive lip exfoliator with ingredients you might already have on hand. While similar recipes use jojoba oil or shea butter, this lip scrub uses good old coconut oil as the moisturizer!
BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB
Equipment
- small bowl
- glass container for storage
- fork
Materials
- 1 part honey
- 1 part coconut oil melted
- 1 part light or dark brown sugar
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl.
- Place the mixture in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes.
- Continue mixing the ingredients with a fork until the mixture resembles creamed butter and sugar.
- Store the finished lip scrub in an air tight container in a cool, dry place.
HOW DO YOU STORE HOMEMADE LIP SCRUB?
You will want to store the lip scrub in a small jar with a secure lid. If the temp gets above 76 degrees, the oil will start to melt and that could get messy. You can buy small glass containers online or you can thoroughly clean out an old makeup jar.
If you are giving this lip scrub as a gift, I suggest adding a label to the jar to identify it. It’s also nice to type up some quick directions on how to use the lip scrub.
HOW DO YOU USE LIP SCRUB?
To use, take a very small amount of the scrub out of the container with the tip of a cotton swab or your fingertips. Place the scrub on your lips and rub it in a circular motion all over your lips. You can rub it with your fingertip or the corner of a washcloth. Your body heat will cause the oil to melt into your skin as the brown sugar exfoliates any dead skin cells. Rinse the scrub off (don’t wipe super hard or you will wipe off the oil!) and enjoy your soft smooth kisser!

I love this recipe but i don’t see the measurements of how much you use of each ingredients. Do you have this by chance?
madincrafts says
Since you are just using equal parts of honey, sugar, and oil, it all depends on how much scrub you would like to make. If you want 1 cup of lip scrub, you would mix together 1/3 cup honey, 1/3 cup brown sugar, and 1/3 cup coconut oil.
Pam says
1part each means if you use 1tablespoon of brown sugar you use the same amount of the other ingredients.

How will this scrub keep?
madincrafts says
If you keep it refrigerated, it should keep for quite a while. If kept at room temp, I would just keep an eye for signs of deterioration after a week or two.

Jessica I made the lip scrub with coconut oil honey and brown sugar. I didn’t have dark brown sugar so I use light brown sugar so I hope it works just as well. I was going to post a picture but I don’t know how to but thank you for the super easy recipe! It will definitely come in handy because my lips stay dry.

Light brown sugar will work just as well! Thanks so much for the kind comment!

I have removed that DIY from my site after learning that using cinnamon in spa products can cause serious irritation for people with sensitive skin. Thank you for the reminder to remove that link from this post!
