DIY WHIPPED BODY BUTTER
MAKING HOMEMADE BODY BUTTER
The secret to making homemade body butter is to melt the ingredients together to combine them. Then you quickly cool the ingredients so that the oils and butter re-solidify. Finally, you whip air into the soft but solid mixture until it has a light, airy texture. This will result in a body butter that is luxurious and soft but that has all the richness of coconut oil and shea butter.
STORING THE BODY BUTTER
Store the body butter in an airtight container in a cool place for 3-6 months. It is not necessary to refrigerate the butter, although you certainly can. If the butter is stored above 75 degrees Fahrenheit, the body butter may begin to melt or separate.
USING DIY BODY BUTTER
You can use homemade whipped body butter just like regular lotion. I like to apply it to skin that is warm and moist after a shower. This is a rich body butter, so you might not need much to add moisture to your skin. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this recipe, don’t use this body butter.
