My parents purchased their very first home this summer, and the room that got the most attention was the kitchen. They hired someone to install a full gas range, replace the counter tops, and build a few new cabinets for them. After all that work was done, the dinky kitchen hardware looked more than a little lackluster. I reached out to Hickory Hardware, and they agreed to help me give a farmhouse kitchen hardware makeover to my parents’ kitchen.
A few years back, I participated in one of Hickory Hardware’s IKEA hack competitions, so I knew how fantastic their hardware is. I was thrilled when they agreed to supply the hardware for my parents’ new kitchen.
The existing hardware in the kitchen consisted of small distressed bronze knobs… everywhere. Mom and I both love the look of cup pulls, so we wanted to upgrade the kitchen with cup pulls, standard pulls, and sturdier knobs.
You can see from these pictures that the existing knobs were too small for the scale of the sizable drawers.
My mom picked out the 3 IN. Williamsburg Cabinet Cup Pulls and the 96mm Forge Pulls in Vintage Bronze. My dad had to plug and fill some of the previous hardware holes in the cabinetry. After repainting the fronts, we measured and drilled to create new locations for the replacement hardware.
The cup pulls feel much more secure and sturdy when pulling out those heavy kitchen drawers.
Mom chose the American Diner Cabinet Knobs (in Vintage Bronze) to replace the rest of the kitchen’s knobs. I was surprised at the heft of these bad boys. They are nice and heavy and have a good grip to them. I think they improve both the form and function of the kitchen.
We used both the cup pulls and the knobs on the chalk painted buffet that we moved into the kitchen. Be sure to check out that DIY from earlier in the week!
I am so thankful to Hickory Hardware for supplying the hardware for my parents’ new kitchen. Just by changing out the hardware, we were able to give the room a whole new look. If you are looking to update your kitchen without doing a full remodel, I highly recommend starting with new hardware!
