15 MINUTE PATRIOTIC BUNTING (AND OTHER PATRIOTIC CRAFTS & RECIPES)

June 2, 2014 by madincrafts 6 Comments

bunting

It was time to update our front door wreath from the Easter Butterfly Wreath to something more summery.  With just a few supplies and 15 minutes, I was able to give the wreath a patriotic makeover.

quick bunting materials

I bought three of these dishtowels from Dollar Tree a few years back, not really knowing what I might do with them.  I stumbled upon them when I was searching my fabric stash for some red, white, and blue fabrics to use for a patriotic bunting.  I was super geeked to be able to make the whole thing out of just one dishtowel, with tons of fabric to spare.

quick patriotic bunting cut pennants

I measured off triangles that would be big enough to fit one of the dishtowel’s stars without cutting it in two.  The pennants ended up being 3 3/4” by 4”.  I used my pinking sheers to cut the triangles so that I wouldn’t worry about having to hem up each of the triangles.

I quickly sewed each of the triangles to a length of white grosgrain ribbon.

Quick Patriotic Bunting on Wreath

Depending on how long you make your bunting, you could drape it from your mantel, along your porch railing, or from the top of a doorway.  I cut my bunting into two pieces and pinned them to my Year Round Wreath.

Quick Patriotic Front Door Wreath

The bunting-decorated wreath matches with the rest of our red, white, and blue front porch decor.  I hope you give the tutorial a try.  It’s a quick and inexpensive way to make bunting that can stay up all summer long.

When I bought my house I went to WalMart and bout 5 yards of patriotic cloth and I had navy ribbon. So I bunched the material like bunting and tied it to the railing with the ribbon. It is so cute that I just keep using it.
