Christmas Gift Idea: 20 Dogs DVD

dvd

Are you a dog person or a cat person? It seems like most people fall into either one category or the other. Almost my entire family consists of dog people, and my kids are following in that same strain. They LOVE dogs, of all shapes and sizes. When I had the opportunity to review 20 Dogs, a DVD all about pooches, I jumped at it.  If you have little dog-lovers on your Christmas list, this DVD is a gift that will make them (and their parents) happy!

I think we have watched the DVD at least a dozen times since we received it in the mail, and so far I haven’t wanted to gouge my own eyes out. If you have ever watched a child’s movie that many times, you know what a rare experience that is. The DVD contains adorable clips of 20 different breeds of dogs all set to the original songs found also on the CD.

The songs are cute, catchy, and educational.  My kids like to dance around to the pop-style auto-tuned tracks,  like “Being Big is Fun.”  I find myself tapping my toe along to the march-style songs like “Is Your Occiput Domed?”  That’s right.  The lyrics teach vocabulary like “occiput,” concepts like opposites, and safety tips like not being fooled into thinking a dog is friendly because of its size.

In fact, my son was just about asleep one evening when we had this conversation:

Silas:  Mom, do you know what dogs’ shoulders are called?

Me:  Um, I don’t know, honey.  I think they are just called ‘shoulders.’

Silas: No, Momma.  They are called the ‘withers.’

He’s four.  So, yeah.  The DVD is educational.

Ultimate-Package

20 Dogs

Here are my two kids snuggling with our Basset Hound Mitch while watching “What’s That Smell?,” the song that accompanies the section of the DVD about Bassets!  They both love the DVD and my son even wore his 20 Dogs t-shirt for show and tell at his preschool.
