Tis the season for holiday parties! That means it’s also the time for stockpiling small gifts that can be given as hostess gifts or for people for whom you (accidentally) forgot to buy presents. These Glitter Edged Holiday Coasters are an inexpensive present that is still pretty and functional. The more drinks served up at a party, the more coasters you need, right?
The best part of this project? The entire thing can be accomplished in no time at all! I am glad to be participating in another Craft Lightning party with Angie from The Country Chic Cottage and Carolina from 30 Minute Crafts. Last time I participated in their Fall-themed Craft Lightning series by making my Gold Burlap Candles and Faux Bronze Owls. This time around, we are all creating quick and easy holiday projects, so be sure to check out all the other great projects included in the series!
To make Glitter Edged Holiday Coasters, you will need:
cork coasters or cork sheets
snowflake stamps (like PSA Essentials’ Fancy Flakes)
black ink
gold glitter (like Martha Stewart’s Yellow Gold)
clear sealant spray (Krylon makes a good one)
I bought my cork coasters at IKEA, but if you can’t swing a trip to that magical superstore you can buy cork tiles and cut them yourself. I used my PSA Essentials snowflake stamps to add some wintery detail to the tops of the coasters. The ink won’t rub off by touching it, BUT it will run if the coasters get wet which (DUH) they will. After you seal the coasters with clear sealant, you will be golden.
Once your stamped designs have dried, paint a layer of Mod Podge all around the edge of the cork. Roll the coaster edges in gold glitter (I used Martha’s Yellow Gold) until they are coated all the way around. Let the Mod Podge dry, then spray with clear sealant.
Stack the coasters and tie them up with a pretty ribbon. Package them with a bottle of wine, and you have a lovely gift that many people would be delighted to get this holiday season!
