Hello. My name is Rhonda, I blog at Mrs. Greene, and I am a dollhouseaholic. Okay, so there isn’t a 12-step program for it, but seriously, I’m completely hooked! It’s a passion that started as a childhood fascination and blossomed into a full-fledged obsession. It’s like playing interior designer on a small scale, and it allows me to experiment with design ideas in a way that if they don’t work, I don’t have to live inside of the resulting mess. Bonus, right?

One of my favorite design styles is Mid-Century Modern, so when the Mad for Mad Men series came along, the thought of making something tiny and retro for one of my dollhouse rooms was enough to make me downright giddy! One of the staples of modern design is the starburst mirror, so I decided to make one that is just 3 inches across.

 You will need:

• 1-inch round mirror
• 1-inch plastic ring (mine came out of a box of macrame supplies)
• Cardboard
• Toothpicks
• Spray paint
• Beads
• Glue

Cut a 1-inch circle of cardboard. Cut eight toothpicks in half and glue them around the cardboard circle with the tapered ends pointing outward.

Apply several light coats of spray paint to both the circle of toothpicks and the plastic ring.

Glue the mirror to the center of the circle of toothpicks, then glue the plastic ring over the mirror to cover the edges and give it a more finished look.

I prefer a more Sputnik-styled starburst, so I added small beads to the ends of the toothpicks. Apply a tiny dab of glue to each toothpick before sliding the beads into place. Now I just need to make the rest of the tiny room that goes with it!
