Before Christmas we threw my son a Star Wars party for his 5th birthday. He is a HUGE Star Wars fan, and he had been talking about this party pretty much since his last birthday party was over. As always, I tried to make as many of the party elements myself as possible, and we tried to keep the cost down to as little as possible. It’s the memories and the fun that count, not the price tag.
I often use Punchbowl or Evite for birthday party invitations, but when the party theme is something as heavily merchandized as Star Wars you can’t count on them to have cards that will match the theme. When I was searching online to make a video invitation like I did for my daughter’s Mickey Mouse party, I happened upon this free Star Wars’ crawl creator. It was the perfect way to create fun Star Wars invitations for my son’s birthday party!
EDIT: I originally shared this post back when StarWars.com had a crawl creator which they eventually stopped supporting. I want to say a HUGE thank you to reader, Becky Toth, for finding a functional alternative!
This website allows you to customize a Star Wars crawl just like the ones at the beginning of every Star Wars movie, complete with opening music! It’s such an iconic part of the Star Wars movies, so it is a perfect way to start the theme for a Star Wars party.
All you need is to type in a introductory paragraph, add your party details and hit “Preview”! Then you can download the crawl and share it with your entire guest list! Easy, fun, and perfect for a Star Wars theme!

Help! My son and I loved the idea of using Crawl Creator for his invitations. We have the text, but when we insert it, preview it and try to share it, the link that people receive only shows people the original Star Wars text (not the party text we put in). Can someone please walk me through it? (We were trying to get these out today.) Many thanks!

Heather, Are you using this site: http://www.starwars.com/games-apps/star-wars-craw… ? After you finish your invite and click DONE, you should click SHARE in the top right corner of the Crawl Creator box. You should be able to use any of the share options to share your completed crawl with friends and family. I hope that helps!

Thank you! It looks like the problem was with people trying to view it on their phones. I sent the official version out tonight. I really appreciate your help (and the fun idea)!

It wasn’t working for us to share, either. E-mail just brings up a dead page and the link that it produces just brings you back to the original text (even after clicking “done” after editing). Wondering if they took that functionality off the site…
madincrafts says
Rats! I will look into it more today and update the post if I find new information. Thanks for letting me know!

We too have been having a similar problem with the site after editing the text and not being able to share it. Any new news as to whether this is temporary problem? Thank You

You\’re right. There\’s something wrong with the coding of their share buttons. Hopefully it\’s something they fix ASAP!

Still unable to share the crawler. Such a disappointment. Hope they address this soon. There’s no contact info on the website.

I am pretty sad about this too. I sent out some tweets, but got no response.

So disappointed. I too am having the same trouble. I wanted to use this for my son’s B-day invite, but am coming across the same issue. It let’s me update and preview, but won’t let me share it via email. It did let me share it to Facebook, but when I click on it, it comes up w/ the blank screen and all my info I typed in is gone. I could cry as this would have been perfect for the invite! LOL!

I am having the same issues with the crawl creator and can’t figure out a way to contact them. it’s such a brilliant idea. does anyone know how to contact them or if they even know that it isn’t working?

Crawl creator still isn’t sharing a customized link properly. 🙁 Too bad because it looked SO cool!

I just tried the crawl creator, too. It’s still doing the same thing everyone else is saying. That’s a huge bummer because my daughter loved it for the invitation to her Star Wars themed party. Thanks for the great idea, though!!

I had the same problem as everyone else; unable to share. Does anyone now of a different website that offers the same Star Wars invite functionality? Thanks.

I found a tutorial for making a crawl on Windows Movie Maker. It took a little work, but looks great. Hope this helps!

Didn’t think to scroll down after I tried this for an hour and couldn’t get it to work. 🙁 Glad to see Terri Lewis post, so I will check that out later. Don’t want to frustrate myself any more today.
And yes, thanks for sharing this idea. It is too cool.

I keep trying to find an alternate for this video. I am so sad they haven't fixed the original!
