Planting Forced Bulbs Mad in Crafts

Remember how I told you that my gladiolus weren’t likely to bloom in the vases I used to jumpstart their growing process? That’s where Miracle-Gro comes in. I decided to plant the gladiolus in a container with some of their new Expand ‘n Gro™ so they would have a good base to continue to grow and eventually bloom.

Here’s how I did it!

1. Choose a container with a few holes for proper drainage.

2. Add coffee filters to the bottom of the container so water can drain, but soil cannot.

3. Fill the container 1/3 of the way with Expand ‘n Gro, add water, and mix.

4. Carefully removed the forced bulbs from the vases. Try not to damage the roots in the process.

5. Plant the bulbs (rocks and all) in the planting mix.

There is no problem planting the bulbs with the roots still wound around the rocks. They will just add additional drainage when you water.

The mix’s natural fibers hold more moisture for the plants and feed them for up to 6 months. That takes so much of the worrying out of the growing process!

The Miracle-Gro Expand ‘n Gro is better for planting than regular soil because it can grow your plants and vegetables up to 3x larger. Or in my case, dramatically improve my chances of keeping them alive. If you plant in a garden or flower bed, the mix also improves your soil for future years as well!

I appreciate that the concentrated mix expands (up to 3x its size!) when you add water, if for no other reason than I don’t have to lug a 50 lb. bag of soil in and out of my car!
