HOME SELF CARE: SCENTED EPSOM SALTS
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE SCENTED EPSOM SALTS
The key to scenting Epsom salts easily is candy oil! You can choose from dozens of “flavors” to scent your bath salts however you would like. Jar them up, and add a personalized jar label with Cricut writable vinyl.

HOW TO SCENT EPSOM SALTS
I made a quick video to show you how easy it is to whip up a batch of scented Epsom salts. Mix together 1/2 cup of Epsom salt with 1/2 cup of citric acid. The citric acid will react with the bathwater and create a fun and relaxing fizz. If you don’t have citric acid on hand, you can just use 1 full cup of Epsom salt.
Add in one vial of candy oil in your choice of flavors. Candy oils are meant to flavor foods, but they work extremely well for scented spa products too!
If you want to add color to your Epsom salt, you can mix in a tiny amount of mica pigments to this mixture. I chose to be extra and created a gradient in my jars, but that’s obviously just for looks.
Funnel the mixture into your mason jar, and you are ready to add a cute label.
HOW TO MAKE MASON JAR LABELS WITH A CRICUT JOY
I love using my Cricut Joy for small, quick projects like this! I love my Maker too, but it is so easy to pull out my Joy and pop some Smart Vinyl into the machine. I didn’t even need to bother with a cutting mat for this project.
I customized the Honey and Jam Jar Labels from Cricut Design Space to create my jar labels. First, I unattached the images from the labels. I swapped out the honey and strawberry images for peach and pear images from Cricut Access. Then I resized the labels to suit my jars.
Then I made sure the peach and pear images were set to Draw instead of cut, attached all the elements, and sent the design to my Joy.
I loaded the Joy with Smart Label Writable Vinyl (with no mat) and inserted a Cricut Joy fine point pen. The Joy drew in the fruit images for me. Then I swapped out the pen for the standard Joy blade so the machine could cut out the labels.
I cut away the excess vinyl and added the labels to the top of my jars of scented Epsom salts. I decided not to use the transfer tape to add the labels, but it would have been easier if I had used it. Now I know for the next batch I make!

I have bad night time leg cramps. I read to take magnesium glycinate, which I have just started in the hopes it will help. Old wives tale suggests putting a bar of soap under your sheets-that’s next. BUT WHY WRITE this to you? Because my late beloved mom had arthritis and ALWAyS kept it under control with a heat lamp on her back and EPSOM SALT BATHS. So I would like to make a jar for MYSELF, like you made, but one thing is a question. You say to use candy oils. I don’t like the sweetness of their scents. Is there any reason you can’t simply add a different fragrance essential oil? Is candy oil just your personal preference, or do essential scented oils-like rose-for example-not inteact well with the epsom salts.
Sure you are busy, but I love your site & hope you will reply asap. YOUR SITE is awesome. I am a jewelry designer=-like the cat says in Alice in Wonderland – We are all mad here..but some of the best
people are!”….best regards, pauli

Thank you for the kind comment! You can use any fragrance oil that is safe to use on your skin. You have to be careful with some essential oils because they are not meant to be applied directly to the skin without a carrier oil. I like to use the candy oils because I like to give every soak I make a new scent, so the small vials are perfect. Bigger bottles of fragrance often go to waste in my craft room. Hope this helps!
