FUEL FOR HARRIED HOLIDAYS

‘Tis the season… to frantically try to get through the monster line at the post office so you can drive all the way across town to buy Christmas craft supplies before the store closes, so you can then drive all the way back across town to return the gift you bought for your kid because you found it cheaper online.  Errand season, folks, it’s upon us.

I try to do as much of my Christmas shopping and holiday prep online, but I still invariably end up in the inefficient errand spiral sometime in mid-December.  On those days, I need magic fuel to keep me running.  My secret formula?  Caffeine and carbs.  Works every time.

Thankfully, no matter how circuitous my errand trips may be, there is always at least one 7-Eleven helpfully located on my way.  Seriously, there are nine of them within a 10 mile radius of my house.  I can quickly run in and grab a big old coffee and a tasty treat from their bakery case.  I just found out that 7-Eleven has started offering delicious Nicaragua Matagalpa Single-Origin coffee, which is way more words than I want to read before I have had my coffee, but I assure you it’s worth it.

I can get a premium cup of coffee without the premium price at 7-Eleven, and they always have a big variety of coffee blends including their new Nicaragua Matagalpa Single-Origin coffee.   I like a rich cup of coffee and this variety is a medium-dark roast with a delicious dark chocolate aroma.  Put coffee together with chocolate, and I’m on board.  To sweeten the deal, the beans are sourced from coffee-growers who are Rainforest Alliance Certified, which means that the coffee comes entirely from farms that meet strict standards designed to protect the environment.

The 7-Eleven baked goods are nothing to scoff at either.  The muffins and donuts give me a quick boost, so I don’t doze off while I’m waiting in line to buy Christmas stamps.  For just a few bucks and a few minutes of my time, I have the fuel I need to get back to running around town like a chicken with its head cut off.  What’s your go-to snack when you are running holiday errands?
