HOW TO USE THE TRAVEL BUDGET WORKSHEET
When you are traveling there are usually three categories of travel costs that eat up most of your budget: transportation, lodging, and food. Other incidentals pop up, of course, but if you have a handle on those three things, you are much more likely to keep your trip within budget.
After downloading the free printable, print it out on your home printer. If you are planning a lengthy vacation, you may need to print a few different sheets.
This budget worksheet uses a simplified spreadsheet format. As you begin to make the plans for your trip, mark down the major expenses you foresee for each category in the first column. For instance, you would list flights, gas money, rental cars, and the like under transportation. Then set a budget estimate for each item in the second column. Once you have finalized and paid for these items, document the actual costs in the third column. If you are planning a trip to a country other than your home country, you may want to list the amounts in both currencies.
Repeat this process by filling out the trip budget planner sections for lodging plans and the cost of food.
HOW DOES USING A TRAVEL BUDGET PLANNER HELP?
Just the act of planning how much you want to spend, and then documenting how much you actually spent, can help you save money. This forethought will help you narrow down your search for airfare, hotels, etc. to ones that fit within your planned budget.
Once the vacation budget planner helps you determine how much you will be spending on transportation, lodging, and food, you will have a better sense of how much you can spend on fun things like entertainment, souvenirs, and other travel expenses.
Whether you are planning a solo trip or a family vacation, the best vacations are the ones that you can relax and enjoy instead of stressing over the bottom line.
