I bought my cousin a cool travel coffee mug for Christmas this year (one of those neat ones that look like a paper coffee shop cup), but that didn’t seem like a whole present. So, at the last minute today, I whipped up some Peppermint Mocha mix to go with it.
Pulverize 5 or 6 candy canes in a food processor (or crush in a ziploc bag.)
Add one cup of powdered sugar.
Add one cup of dry non-dairy creamer.
Add all the cocoa in the house. About 3/4 cup of special dark cocoa.
Run the food processor for a few minutes until it’s all mixed. You can also just stir it in a large bowl, but that can get messy.
Then I just scooped it into a mason jar and decorated the lid with some Chirstmas scrapbook embellishments. I added a little note inside the coffee mug that said:
Peppermint Mocha
Mix 3-4 tablespoons of the dry mix into 8 oz. of hot water for cocoa, or into 8 oz. of coffee for peppermint mocha.
I also added some chocolate-dipped stirring spoons to decorate the wrapping. You can find my tutorial for the spoons here.
Sorry I didn’t take a picture of the finished product. I really mean this was last minute!

I love theme gifts, especially when they're homemade. Now homemade mocha – can't get much better than that (sigh).

Yummo! Thanks for linking this at Kimba's… I usually make hot chocolate mix, but this sounds better!

Cute! I wonder if you could get away with not adding the powdered sugar? I love peppermint mocha, but I try to avoid a lot of sugar. Thanks for the idea!

Oh I like that idea…I love the thought of stirring it into my coffee…I've been spending a small fortune at Starbucks on their Minty Mocha's!!!! 🙂

I made this according to your directions (good way to use up those last few candy canes!) but we found it a bit thin–I guess we’re used to a milkier sort of hot chocolate. I’m going to stir in some milk powder and see if that helps.
My middle schooler enjoys your site, by the way–she spent awhile yesterday looking at your old posts.
