Let’s talk about favorite music today, you guys. When I am working on a project (or cooking dinner or cleaning), I usually have my ipod cranking a Pandora station. Up until recently I would put on my Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It) station or my Motown station. Pop and Motown are my favorite genres to keep my creative motivation going.
A week ago I discovered a new go-to playlist that melds these genres together! ScottBradleeLovesYa is a YouTube user who produces amazing videos of uber talented musicians, who call themselves Postmodern Jukebox, performing Top 40 hits reworked in vintage musical styles. It sounds gimicky, and it is, but they execute everything so well that it just works. Now when I am working I just set up the ScottBradleeLovesYa Postmodern Jukebox playlist and let it play.
Postmodern Jukebox also has albums available on iTunes now, if you want access to the songs when you are away from the internet. I think the music would be a perfect playlist for a party at home too, since it combines new songs with less obnoxious instrumentation.

Kesha’s “Timber” is a guilty pleasure of mine, so this Doo Wop cover of the song makes me feel less conflicted about loving it. Plus, the singer’s dress is adorable.
Then there is this fantastic ’60s Girl Group style cover of “Burn” complete with a saxophone that shoots flames.
A klezmer version of “Talk Dirty” that includes an accordian and a Yiddish rap? Sign me up.

Lately I’ve been listening to podcasts instead of music, but this sounds neat!
I usually have a local country & western station playing but if the creative juices are really flowing, I don’t hear the music, it’s nice to get lost in the work that brings a sense of well being & all’s right with the world, even if it only lasts until the phone rings or someone wants/needs something.
Have you seen the You Tube video “what does the Fox Say”? If not, Bing it & watch, my Aunt Helen had to show it to us when she visited last, her family refers to her as the ‘Foxy Grandma’ & while it isn’t about that it’s still a very cute video.
I could not get that song out of my head after listening to it. Never again!
