This past week I did something that I have never done before. I took a break. I know that sounds melodramatic, and it kind of is, but those of you who are moms too know that we don’t really get breaks. When we are sitting down in our recliner watching Mad Men, we are on the clock. When we are lying in our beds at 2 AM, we are working. When we are away from home at our day jobs, we haven’t punched out of our position as mom.
Last week, I went to SNAP! to meet other creative bloggers and learn more about how to improve Mad in Crafts and All Cheap Crafts. I live in Michigan, the conference was in Utah. I was forced to take a break from my role as mom, and leave my two kids under the care of my husband and my parents while I traveled. I flew on an airplane for the first time in over seven years. I ate adult meals with both hands. I slept through the night for the first time since my son was born. It was wonderful.
And incredibly hard.
As much as I loved being in Salt Lake City for SNAP!, part of me was at home with my family. Because being a mom ISN’T a job. It’s not just what I do. It’s who I am. I will never retire from being my kids’ mother. I don’t take vacations from being a mom. I don’t even get half hours lunches. Because even when I am apart from them I am still theirs and they are still mine.
And I don’t want a break from that.
CardStore created this video to remind us of all that moms do for their kids 24 hours a day 7 days a week. And they also provide a way to tell your mom that you are thankful for never quitting the World’s Toughest Job. With Cardstore.com you can create custom cards by adding personal photos, personalized messaging and your signature. Then they will print, stamp and send the card for you! No muss, no fuss!
I used Cardstore to create this pretty card, and I am keeping it for myself. I want it to remind me that I always want to be Home for my kids, no matter where I am.
If you would like to make a personalized card for a mom, grandma, aunt, godmother or favorite lady in your life, Cardstore is sharing a coupon code with Mad in Crafts readers. Use the code CCF4249 to get a Mother’s Day card (typically up to $3.69) for just $2.49. The coupon code CCF4249 is valid from April 24-May 5.

My son is now 30 or will be in a few months. Yes, I get breaks now, he has his own home, a good job, finishing his 3rd college degree & I don’t see or hear from him nearly enough, having said all this, he still calls me when he needs something & if I call and say I’ve made spaghetti sauce, he will come home for a meal. Cherish these moments when they are still home with you, all too soon, they are gone.
