There’s nothing quite like the charm of a gingerbread house, but it’s sad to have to throw them away at the end of the season. With a few simple materials and some creativity, you can create an entire gingerbread fairy garden village that will last for years! In this tutorial, I’ll take you through the steps to create your own gingerbread fairy garden using dollar store fairy garden houses.
DIY GINGERBREAD FAIRY GARDEN
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE A DOLLAR STORE GINGERBREAD FAIRY HOUSE
I used ceramic fairy garden houses that I purchased at the dollar store previously, so you can definitely use fairy houses you already own if you don’t want to purchase new ones. I used these paint pens to draw the white “frosting” onto the painted houses and they worked very well.

How to Make Gingerbread Fairy Houses
- If your fairy garden houses have been outside or in the dirt, clean them thoroughly.
- Give the houses a coat of medium brown spray paint (or craft paint).
- Use white paint pens to trace the details of each house. Focusing on the outlines of doors and windows, roof lines, and stones will give the houses the look of gingerbread.
HOW TO DISPLAY YOUR GINGERBREAD FAIRY GARDEN
I created my gingerbread fairy garden by placing the houses on a platter nestled in some buffalo snow. I added some fairy lights and greenery to complete my holiday centerpiece. The hand-painted fairy houses would be a delightful touch underneath a lit Christmas tree You can add a little magic to the plants around your house or put them outside for winter fairies!
