I hope you have been enjoying my Duck Tape Christmas decorations today! So far, I have shared the NOEL decoration and my Duck Tape link garland. The final decorations I made using the holiday tape were these cute trees!
I have seen so many beautiful versions of the paper cone trees floating around the internet. They are easy and affordable, but I wanted something to coordinate with my other duck tape mantel decorations. After a little experimentation, I came up with the super cute ruffle trees you see here. And the bonus of these trees is that I don’t have to worry about them tearing or being crunched when they have to go back into storage!
To make Duck Tape Ruffle Trees, you will need:
scrap cardboard
I raided our pantry for some cereal bar boxes to turn into the cones that would serve as the base of the trees. I just rolled the cardboard into a cone, and secured it with a small piece of duck tape. Boom. Instant cone-age.
Rip off a section of tape that is a few inches longer than the circumference of the section you are covering. When in doubt, use more than you think you need; you can always cut off the excess. Fold one-third of the tape’s width over and stick it to itself.
You can see that process better in this picture. Fold over one-third, leaving one-third sticky.
Begin wrapping the tape around the cone. Every half inch or so, pinch the tape to create ruffles.
The larger the pinch, the larger the ruffle. There is no real science to it, just create as many as you would like.
Overlap the ruffles to cover the cardboard. At the very top, wrap one final section and pinch off the top to make sure the cone is covered. Just like that, you have some adorable ruffled trees.
I mixed up the patterns of the holiday tape to make the trees coordinate with my other mantel décor, but you could certainly make your trees out of just gold or green tape as well.
The trees are so fun to make, I might even make a few more to place in other spots around the house. I hope you liked all the duck tape decorations I shared with you today and that I maybe inspired you to look to duck tape for more than just home repairs!
