Tulips are my favorite flower. No roses, no lillies, no gerbera daisies for this girl. I love the sleek, architectural beauty of tulips. My husband and I aren’t an uber-romantic couple, but when he does get me flowers he always remembers to buy tulips. It’s important that he get cut tulips since I have such a terrible track record with houseplants. Give me a love fern, and I will have killed it in under a week.

To make store-bought flowers a bit more special, you can add a little DIY touch to it. I made some quick clay hearts using pantry staples to customize the bouquet. You can too!
I used the same recipe and process for these hearts that I did for the clay ornaments I made around Christmas, minus the glitter. You can get kids involved in this craft because it’s just like making cut-out cookies!
For a few of the hearts, I rolled up a length of aluminum foil and laid the clay hearts over it. This gave the hearts a little bit of dimension. Bake the hearts at 175 for an hour and let them cool.
After the hearts cooled, I decorated them with gold and silver permanent markers. Again, you could get kiddos involved in the decorating process (just be careful — PERMANENT markers, remember?).
You can use these little hearts in a bunch of different ways. I turned them into floral picks, vase embellishments, and table scatter!
I glued two hearts to wooden skewers and added them to the display of flowers.
I glued another heart to the front of the glass vase.
Finally I scattered a few more hearts on the table around the vase. It makes for a cute, personal-looking gift that is different from all the other grocery store or floral shop bouquets that will be handed out on Valentine’s Day.
