WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE A BAT MASK AND HEADBAND
I purchased almost all of the supplies I used for this project from my local Dollar Tree. I wasn’t able to find this exact mask online, so you will have to visit the store in person to see if your store has it in stock. You can purchase the items that you need from the dollar store for under $10, and you will have plenty of supplies left over for other projects.
These are all affiliate links, if you make a purchase (of anything from these retailers, not just these items) after clicking through, I will earn a small commission. HOW TO MAKE GLAM BAT ACCESSORIES
I chose to upgrade the plastic mask with two coats of Violet-Blue-Green Dragonfly Glaze. If you don’t want to use the Dragonfly Glaze, you could also give the mask a coat of color shifting spray paint or coat it with Mod Podge and glitter. I then added two larger rhinestones to the mask with hot glue. Just make sure that any embellishments that you add to the mask do not obstruct your vision.
I used this SVG file to cut bat shapes out of black craft foam. The Cricut Maker’s knife blade cuts craft foam EXTREMELY well. For information about cutting craft foam with a Maker, visit my friend Angie’s amazing tutorial. If you don’t have a Maker, you could also cut the bat shapes out by hand.
I then gave each of the bats two coats of the same Dragonfly Glaze that I used on the mask.
I cut three 6-inch pieces of floral wire and wrapped them around a black headband. I glued a strip of craft foam to the underside of the headband so that the wire doesn’t scratch my head! I sandwiched the end of the wire between two of the craft foam bats so that they look like they are flying around my head.
Finally, I removed black and purple flowers from their stems and hot glued them onto the headband. I added one last bat shape to the center of one of the flowers, and the headband was complete!
HOW TO MAKE A GLAM BAT COSTUME
I would pair these accessories with an all-black outfit, like leggings and a flowy top or a black dress. Glam makeup and a black wig would be perfect final touches. What are your costume plans for Halloween this year?
