Even though the name is confusing, Oktoberfest is traditionally celebrated in September in Germany. That means it’s almost time to bust out your dirndls and lederhosen, put on your polka playlist, and make some Oktoberfest crafts! I added some glitz and glam to a piece from the craft store to make a glittering pretzel marquee light to serve as decoration at an Oktoberfest party.
OKTOBERFEST CRAFTS: GLITTER PRETZEL DECOR
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THE PRETZEL DECORATION
I found a craft wood pretzel marquee light during a recent trip to Michael’s, and it is what I used as the base for this project. You could also make some cute Oktoberfest decorations with wood cutouts just as easily. I will include links to both below.

HOW TO MAKE THE GLITTER PRETZEL MARQUEE
Brezeln are large German pretzels that are staples at an Oktoberfest celebration. They are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the perfect complement to a delicious German Bier. This pretzel is decidedly less delicious than the real thing, but so much sparklier!
The first thing I did was to remove the small LED tea light that came with the pretzel marquee. The light wasn’t shining through the holes in the pretzel at all, and it just looked kind of weird. I was able to pry the light out with a craft knife.
Next, I gave the entire piece a coat of bronze craft paint. Remember that craft wood is a “thirsty” surface, so it will likely soak up quite a bit of paint. Just like real Brezeln soak up all that beer in your belly!
After that paint was dry, I applied a liberal amount of Cinnamon Glitterific to the front of the piece. This Glitterific has beautiful coppery brown glitter in a variety of sizes and shapes for maximum sparkle.
Finally I hot glued a strand of mini LED lights inside the marquee so that it would still glow in low light. (I turned my studio lights down, that’s why the color is different in these pictures.)
This glittery pretzel is ready for a place of honor at our next Oktoberfest celebration!
