I am scared of bling. There, I’ve said it. I like sequins, I like rhinestones, I like glitter, but I am not good at using any of it. Everything is so tiny and delicate that I always seem to make a mess and get frustrated before I can finish a blinged-out project. That’s why I was a little nervous when I opened my big box of bling from Darice. It was a whole lot of sparkle, and I was intimidated.
I didn’t need to be. Bling on a Roll is used like a ribbon, but has the sparkle of rhinestones. It’s easy to cut, and can be sewn onto fabrics or glued to hard surfaces. I wanted to create something sparkly with a modern edge, so I used the Bling on a Roll to create a geometric pattern on an inexpensive glass vase.
To make a Geometric Jeweled Vase, you will need:
glass vase
wide, silver Bling on a Roll
washable marker
scissors
adhesive dots
Begin by measuring around the vase to see how much Bling on a Roll you will need. Cut that length off the roll.
Using a washable marker, mark off whatever pattern you choose to use. I stuck with simple diamonds to reinforce the bling-y feel. Plus they were easy to cut.
Using a sharp pair of scissors, cut out the design. The Bling on a Roll is easy to cut; my scissors went right through the silver bling and the connecting threads. The more intricate your design, the smaller the scissors you will need.
When you flip the roll over you will have a light-catching pattern that is ready to use!
Attach the pattern to the vase with clear adhesive dots.
TIP: Wipe the glass down with rubbing alcohol before you begin to remove any dirt or gunk on the surface of the glass.
With those simple steps, you have an elegant, shimmering vase! You can leave it empty or set a candle inside to reflect more of the facets of the bling,
These vases would be perfect for a wedding, either as table decoration or as a place to display the bride’s bouquet at the reception.
I am not so scared of rhinestones and bling anymore! I think I am going to be looking for other fun ways to work some sparkle into my craft projects down the line.
