We are coming up on Easter and I was brainstorming what kind of decorative projects I wanted to make this year. More than bunnies or chicks or eggs, Easter makes me think of stained glass. Our church has big, gorgeous stained glass windows, one of which depicts Jesus exiting the tomb on Easter morning. The church is built so that, if Easter isn’t a cloudy day, the sun rises and shines directly through that window in the midst of our Easter morning church services. It is beautiful. I don’t know, and am frankly a little scared to learn, how to do real stained glass work. The projects I will be sharing this week are all inspired by real stained glass, and are designed to give the effect of stained glass on different surfaces. Today I am sharing how to make faux stained glass mason jars with alcohol ink.
Be aware that you need to be 18 to buy the canned air in many stores. The checkout lady asked me for my ID, which I gladly showed her and told her that I was not too far away from being 18 twice over!
I used the exact same technique to color this mason jar that I used on my Stained Glass Easter Eggs last year. I love how the quilted mason jar has facets to catch and refract that light.
Since the alcohol inks are waterproof, you can use these mason jars like you would normally. I would advise washing by hand, rather than in the dishwasher, just to make sure that the ink isn’t scratched off.
