Have you already set up your Christmas tree or will you wait until Friday? Our tree has been partially up for about a week now. Lights and ribbon are up, but no ornaments. I think I like getting the decorations out in a steady stream over the course of a few weeks, so I can add to my homemade decorations as I need to. Floracraft® asked me to recreate one of the projects from their new holiday ebook, and I jumped at the chance to make a tree topper for my small all white tree.
I used FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam sheet to make this project. You can find Make It: Fun® products at your local craft store. I also printed off the largest star template from the FloraCraft® Holiday ebook.
I used that template as a stencil to trace the star onto the foam with a permanent marker. The image didn’t completely fit on a standard piece of paper, but it was easy enough to connect the straight lines to complete the star. I opted not to cut the smaller star out of the middle of the tree topper, so that there wouldn’t be any branches poking through the cut-out.
I used a serrated knife to cut out the star shape. Since this shape consists solely of straight lines, it was SUPER easy.
Originally (as you can see from my supplies picture), I had planned to use spray glitter on the star. When I tried it, you could hardly make out the glitter. Bummer. No problem though, I added a layer of craft glue and sprinkled on some gorgeous FloraCraft® Diamond Dust™.
When the glue had dried, I added a dowel to the bottom of the star to support it on the tree.
I love the way the Diamond Dust™ reflects the lights off of a Christmas tree! It is even prettier in person.
