Rugs Tie a Room Together

When it comes to pulling a whole room together, you can’t do much better than an area rug. Rugs define spaces and say, “All this stuff here? This all goes together.” Even if your room is full of mismatched furniture and eclectic decor, a rug and make all the disparate pieces make sense. The rug serves as an island that brings all the castaways together.

Kalaty.com is a family owned company that specializes in handmade area rugs. They challenged me to create a few mood board based off of their rug designs. Since we will likely never have the budget to go out and buy a entire room of furniture and decor at once, this was a fun fantasy shopping trip for me.

Homey Comfort
 
This mood board is the one that would most likely end up in my own house. It’s stylish but welcoming, and the color palette is based mostly in neutrals. The geometric Provincial Blue rug from the Portfolio collection would the boldest statement in the room.
Dark and Masculine
 
This moody mood board is dark and masculine. I tend to gravitate toward more masculine design elements like leather and metal accents, so I would have no problem living in a room like this. In this case Nova Earth & Shadow rug adds warmth and texture to an otherwise hard looking room.
 
Colorful Contemporary
 
Of the three looks, this room would be the most outside of my comfort zone. By using complementary colors on the color wheel, I tried to add lots of color without it looking like a circus. The color of the Inspira Blue rug ties the other colors into the room and adds a subtle texture too.
