a hand-me-down bedside table that has seen better days
metallic silver spray paint
craft paint in a variety of colors (I got mine at the dollar store)
paintbrushes
storage bins I got at the dollar store. And, yes, I did check that the paints were non-toxic. Hopefully the boy won’t spend too much time chewing on his bedside table, though.
Boys just don’t understand the important things in life.

Great idea! I can imagine all kinds of mods to make this for a little girl too!
The silver paint can go adult as well, mirror that drawer for a chic upgrade.

When I saw your painted hands, first thing I thought of was rubber gloves, unless you’re allergic, then maybe a dollar store garden or cotton gloves. Something to protect your trigger finger. I loved creating things for my son, alas he’s 39 now. With no money, one year I made round shields from cardboard, painted and glued cool posters of 16th century swordsman on them. Made swords from thin fir strip wood for inside sturdiness but only harm, glued sword shaped cardboard to those, painted black. Wish I had a picture?. I made two sets they turned out way cool. Made em for 10 bucks.
