A week after we attended my cousin’s lovely green and brown wedding, we got to go to my husband’s brother’s extraordinarily fun wedding. I didn’t get quite as many photos as I liked, unfortunately. My husband was in the wedding party, so my hands were tied up with our two little munchkin instead of my camera. I am excited to share with you the pictures I did get of this fun, fall wedding.
The decorations at the church and the reception hall were all done in the entire scope of fall colors – from deep red to lush green.
The large flower arrangements at the church were made by a friend of my mother-in-law. Aren’t they pretty? The colors were even more vibrant in real life.
My new sister-in-law is an amazingly talented lady. She is an accomplished seamstress and even studied costume design in Rome for a few months. Jealous, much? She handmade many of the aspects of the wedding, including… wait for it… HER OWN DRESS. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, she made her own wedding gown. I can’t even imagine the skill and ambition that requires.
She had a small strap malfunction in the greeting line after the wedding, so here she is happily stitching her dress back up. Smiling and sewing never go together in my world.
She and her friends put together the wedding party’s bouquets and boutonnieres. Each bouquet was made of dozens of handmade fabric flowers.
Each of the bridesmaids wore chocolate brown dresses and held a bouquet made in their own fall color: one red, one yellow, one orange. Each bridesmaid’s groomsman wore a boutonniere that matched her bouquet.
The bride’s bouquet was a compilation of all the colors of the bridesmaids’ bouquets. I like the addition of the rhinestone brooch at the bottom of each hand-tied bouquet too.
My mother-in-law’s best friend made this gorgeous tiered cake. I wish she lived near us so she could have made our wedding cake! The cake topper is a unique monogram that was featured on the invitations and wedding favors.
Check out the adorable details on the cake. Each calla lily and rose was handmade as were the tiny, little marbled buttons! The bride specifically asked for the buttons, and it was the cake maker’s first time making them. Such a special and personal touch!
The wedding party toasted the couple in champagne flutes that the bride painted and cured a few days before the wedding. Again, each wedding party couple had their own designated color for his and her color blocked glass.
Since my brother-in-law and his wife are just 22 years old (BABIES!), this wedding had a decidedly younger vibe that the wedding we attended the previous week. Most of their friends were still in, or had just graduated from college, so my 31-year-old husband and I felt like old fogeys.
Turns out that a lot of the things that were popular when we were in grade school are now retro and ironically cool now, like these neon Ray-Ban style sunglasses each guest was given as a favor. The couple requested that everyone wear the glasses to the photo booth guestbook they had set up in the corner of the hall.
The groom gave his groomsmen patent leather high-top Chucks as a gift, and they all changed into them for the reception. These are the groom’s feet; the groomsmen’s shoes had laces that color-coordinated with their boutonnieres.
Because it was such a young crowd, the dance floor got a pretty decent workout all night. My son was thrilled to be able to bust out his smooth moves.
Get at ‘em, Silas.
Seriously, though, the wedding reception was unlike any I have ever been to. My brother-in-law is a fantastically talented dubstep DJ. I am just waiting for dubstep to get even more popular because he is going to make a huge name for himself. You might have seen this video on the front page of Reddit a few months back, the remix in the background is one of his… that he did three years ago, the little whippersnapper.
Even if you don’t think you like dubstep, or don’t even know what it is, listen to this track off his newest LP. I think it is fabulous, though I might be a tad biased.
