16 GREAT GIFTS FOR PLANT LOVERS
GREAT GIFTS TO HELP PLANT LOVERS HAVE A GREEN THUMB
Keeping indoor plants alive is both an art and a science. These are the best gifts you can give your plant-owning friends to help them keep their plants alive and thriving.
HOUSEPLANT SUBSCRIPTION
The number one thing that your plant-loving friend wants is more plants. We have a fever and the only prescription is more plants. There are several houseplant subscription services out there, but The Houseplant Box Subscription is very reasonable. For $15.99 per month, the recipient will receive a new houseplant. Subscriptions are available in 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month bundles.
STURDY PLANTERS
When you purchase a new plant, it usually comes in what is known as a grow pot. That pot will work for a while, but eventually, a healthy plant will outgrow that pot. At that point, the plant should be repotted in a pot that is about 2 inches larger than the previous pot. This 5 Pack of HOMENOTE Flower Pots contains sturdy pots in 5 different sizes, so you can plant five different plants or keep the larger pots on hand to use as the plant grows. The pots are plastic but have a matte, ceramic-like finish. Each pot has good drainage holes and comes with its own drip tray.
MACRAME PLANT HANGERS
Some houseplants, like spider plants, just beg to be hung from the ceiling. This 3 Pack of Mkono Macrame Plant Hangers contains three sizes of macrame plant hangers so you can create a beautiful grouping of hanging plants. The macrame is sturdy and water-resistant, so you can breathe easy knowing your plants are secure.
STYLISH WATERING CAN
Plants really only need three things to thrive, and the first is water. I love my WhaleLife Indoor Watering Can for Houseplants because it is beautiful, sturdy, and makes watering my plants very easy. The long spout helps to get into tight places without sloshing water all over my house. It also fits underneath my kitchen faucet to quickly fill up the 1/3 gallon can. I have this watering can in Translucent Green, but there are 8 different colors and finishes from which to choose.
MOISTURE METER
Giving your houseplants the correct amount of water is key to happy plants, but it is SO HARD to tell if you are watering correctly. A moisture meter like the XLUX Soil Moisture Meter helps to take some of the guesswork out of watering. Stick the sensing probe into the soil of the houseplant and the meter will show you how moist or dry the soil is. This can be a game-changer for plant parents like me who tend to overwater their plant babies.
GROW LIGHT
The second thing all houseplants need is sunlight, but some of us don’t have the south- or west-facing windows that some houseplants really need. These positionable grow lights clamp onto shelves, tables, and desks to help give your plants the light they crave all year round.
PLANT FOOD
The final thing plants need to be happy is nutrients. Fertilizing is a tricky subject, but I have been using Happy Happy Houseplant’s Plant Food for months with great success. This plant food formulation is meant to be used at every watering, so you don’t have to keep track of when you last fertilized your plants. The starter kit comes with a jug of plant food concentrate, a glass jar, and a dropper. Just add 1 mL per gallon of water to your watering can and watch your plants grow!
MOSS POLES FOR CLIMBING PLANTS
Did you know that climbing plants like pothos and philodendron will actually grow larger leaves if you let them climb instead of just letting them trail? This 2 Pack of Coir Poles gives those plants a sturdy totem to climb. You can use the 15-inch poles in two plants or stack one on top of the other to create a 30-inch pole for your big boy plants.
STICKY PEST TRAPS
The one downside of turning your home into your own personal jungle is that oftentimes with the plants come bugs. Fungus gnats, fruit flies, and other pests can be a real downer. I have found that a combination of Neem Oil and Garsum Sticky Houseplant Traps helps to eliminate those little buggers. The yellow color attracts the bugs and the ultra-sticky surface traps them.
PROPAGATION STATION
When you start to have success growing your own plants, the next step is propagating those plants to make EVEN MORE PLANTS! The stylish Mkono Plant Propagation Wall Hanging allows your giftee to grow up to 15 propagations at a time.
GIFTS FOR PROUD PLANT PARENTS
Plant people like just about anything plant-related from t-shirts to puzzles. These are just a few gift ideas to delight the planty types on your holiday list.
FUNNY PLANT SOCKS
Proud plant parents have no issue wearing dorky plant-themed clothing items to let people know about our favorite hobby. These adorable Plants Get Me. Socks are a great option if you are worried about guessing clothing sizes as they are one size fits most.
HANGING PLANT CROSS STITCH KIT
Is your plant-loving friend also a crafter? The Kissbuty Cross Stitch Kit is perfect for even beginner needleworkers. The kit includes everything needed to create a beautiful cross-stitch, from needles and thread to the hoop and color instructions for the various stitches.
HOUSEPLANT GUIDE BOOK
The Leaf Supply Guide to Creating Your Indoor Jungle combines the beautiful photos and illustrations of a coffee table book with the handy tips of a guidebook. Plant lovers will love reading and displaying this pretty book.
VINTAGE HOUSEPLANT PUZZLE
There is a definite overlap between people who love plants and people who love puzzles. I love the vintage look of the Cavallini Papers & Co. House Plants 1,000 Piece Puzzle. When your recipient has finished putting the puzzle together, he can either break it apart to enjoy it again or glue and frame it like an art piece.
PRINTABLE PLANT STICKERS
I have designed a set of funny plant stickers that plant-lovers will love. The digital download can be used to make stickers and decals for phones, laptops, notebooks, and more.
PLANT LOVER TEE
Finally, the All Plants Tee from Happy, Happy Houseplant features cool line drawings of popular houseplants. This is sure to be a hit with your plant-loving friends.
