If you have a stake in the blogging world, you have probably heard the rumors that Feedburner is going the way of the dodo. This is frustrating on number of levels, although not as heartbreaking as the loss of Picnik. What it means for bloggers is we will need to find a new way to deliver our feed of posts to our readers’ readers (hehe), find a way to deliver our feed to our readers’ emails, organize a swift and easy transition to a new system, and possibly fork out some money to do so.
For you readers, it means that you may have to sign up for your favorite blogs feeds AGAIN, to make sure you don’t miss out on any brilliant ideas.
Technically, Feedburner is supposed to last for another month, but I wanted to get a jumpstart on the process to give you all time to make any adjustments you need to.
With my new system there are TWO ways to receive my blog’s feed: via an RSS reader (like Google Reader) or via email. The only trick is that you will have to sign up for these feeds again. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I think I have made it as painless as possible.
First, decide how you want to read the Mad in Crafts feed (reader or email).
If you want to add MiC to your RSS reader, click on the RSS button located in the sidebar with my other social media icons. (While you’re there, why not click the other buttons and follow me on them as well.) This will take you to my feed page and will give you a variety options for RSS readers.
If you want to receive each Mad in Crafts post in your email inbox, enter your email address in the box in the section of the sidebar marked “NEW EMAIL FEED.” You will receive emails from Mad in Crafts that ONLY contain that day’s post. If there were no new posts, you will not get an email.
After you have signed up, you will get an email asking you to confirm your subscription. Click the link in the email and it will take you to this page. If you want to read the Mad in Crafts feed email on your computer, you are done! If you will read the emails on a mobile device, click “manage your preferences.”
Click the radial button for “Mobile” and hit “Update Profile.”
Now your Mad in Crafts posts will be all set for your fancy phone or tablet!
If you do not already receive the once a week Mad Skills Newsletter, which highlights the best tutes linked up to the link party as well as shares inside MiC news, you can enter your email in the section of the sidebar marked “MAD SKILLS NEWSLETTER.” This is NOT a feed option, but it’s pretty cool anyway.
I probably over-explained that whole process, but I wanted to make sure you all were able to keep getting every Mad in Crafts post even when Feedburner bites the big one. If you have any troubles making the switch, please let me know in the comments section and I will try to help!
